What to Expect During Your Appointments
If it’s your first time visiting a physiotherapist, it’s absolutely normal to feel a little nervous. We hope the following information can put your mind at ease and help calm your nerves before your first visit.
Below, we outline what you can expect at your first appointment, as well regular follow-up visits after your initial assessment.
At Your First Visit
As a major centre for physiotherapy in Edmonton, we want to help banish your nerves right from the start. Our friendly front desk staff will greet you upon your arrival and make you feel right at home.
Your physiotherapist will then begin your assessment. This assessment will involve testing for your strengths, weaknesses, flexibility and more. Your physio will also ask you questions regarding your pain levels and your condition.
From this assessment, your physiotherapist will create a unique treatment plan for you and your goals. This treatment plan may include manual techniques, prescribed exercises, education regarding your condition and more.
Physiotherapy is a very collaborative approach to your healing and recovery. You will frequently perform any prescribed exercises at home at the prescribed amounts, such as every other day or daily. Your physiotherapist will also rely on you to report back at each appointment that follows regarding your pain levels, how your exercises went at home and any other pertinent info.
Regular Visits
After your initial appointment, your treatment plan may involve regular follow-up visits. This may range from once or twice a week to once once a month, depending on your condition and the severity of your condition or injury.
These appointments, as briefly described above, will check in on you and build on any foundations already laid. For instance, your physiotherapist may progress your exercises as you begin to feel better and recover. They may also add new manual therapy techniques, as well as continue to perform the techniques that provide relief for you.
Throughout your regular visits, your physiotherapist will conduct follow-up testing. This measures whether or not your strength, flexibility, or pain levels have improved since your initial assessment.
